Gardai are questioning seven men and a teenager in connection with the attack on a woman in an apartment in Dublin's north inner city.
A 30-year-old woman was held against her will and seriously injured. Gardai targeted a drug-dealing gang when they raided the Bolton Street apartment at around 7pm last night. But during their detention, gardaà found the woman seriously injured in the apartment. She was brutally beaten, burned and some of her hair was pulled out. She is being treated in hospital for serious but non-life threatening injuries. The woman is undergoing treatment at the Mater Hospital.
There were 8 men, seven men between the ages of 20 and 54 and a 16-year-old boy. They were arrested and detained at various garda stations. The eight men have been detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984. As their detention period has been extended today, they can be interrogated for 24 hours.
They are part of the city's drug-dealing gang, with connections in Ballymun and Santry, and are known to gardaÃ. Gardaà believe the attack is linked to drug dealing, which may not be linked to the victim, but is suspected to an associate of the partner. Garda headquarters in Bridewell have arrested eight men in connection with an investigation into the alleged false imprisonment of a woman at a property in Bolton Street, Garda headquarters announced this evening.
