New Delhi: India has taken tough action against Canada. The Indian High Commissioner to Canada, Sanjay Kumar Verma, has been recalled by the central government.
The action was taken in protest against the move to file a case against the Indian High Commissioner in the murder of Khalistan terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar. The Centre's move was followed by rejecting Canada's allegations and replying in harsh language. The Canadian diplomatic mission was informed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The central government's move is because Canada has sent a letter saying that the position of the Indian High Commissioner is in doubt. The Center has stated that it has lost faith in the current Canadian government and is recalling them to ensure the safety of diplomatic personnel. "In an environment of terrorism and violence, it must be underlined that the Trudeau government's actions put the safety of diplomats at risk.
We have no confidence in the Canadian government's commitment to ensuring their safety. "Inadvertently, the Government of India has decided to recall other diplomats and officials, targeting the Indian High Commissioner and the Government of Canada," the Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement. Relations between the two countries soured after Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau accused India of involvement in the killing of Khalistan terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar in June 2023.
India dismissed Canada's allegations as 'absurd' and 'politically motivated'. The diplomatic crisis worsened again after Canada's investigation report came out that the Indian High Commissioner was involved in the Nijjar murder case.
