An Irishman has been arrested in Budapest in connection with the murder of a a nurse practitioner

An Irishman has been arrested in Budapest in connection with the  murder of a 31-year-old American woman who is a nurse practitioner   .  

 An Irish man has been arrested in connection with the murder of 31-year-old American woman Mackenzie Michalski in Budapest, according to reports from Hungarian and US media   . 

Mackenzie Michalski was traveling through Europe with friends.  Mackenzie Michalski, 31, known as Kenzie, was talking to friends about her visit to Budapest on Tuesday.  McKenzie, a nurse practitioner, has been missing since Tuesday from a nightclub in Budapest.  After she failed to return calls the next day, Mackenzie's friends spread the word about her disappearance on social media. 

She is believed to have gone missing following a night out in Budapest, and investigators claimed to have identified a man seen with her at several nightclubs. 

According to US station ABC News, Hungarian police claimed that the Irishman confessed to killing the US nurse.  A 37-year-old Irishman confessed to her murder and showed Hungarian police where her body was dumped. His name has not been released yet.  The body was recovered.

Mackenzie's family and friends released a statement yesterday saying they were "deeply saddened to confirm the report published by the Hungarian police announcing the death of our beloved Kenzie".

The US State Department said yesterday that it is aware of reports that Hungarian police have taken a suspect into custody in connection with the disappearance of a US citizen in Hungary.  The US Embassy said it had contacted Hungarian police but had no further comment due to "privacy and other considerations".
