Medics reported six fatalities in Beit Lahiya, where airstrikes hit a house and an area near the Kamal Adwan Hospital. In Khan Younis, four individuals were killed when an Israeli strike targeted a motorcycle. Nuseirat, one of Gaza’s historic refugee camps, saw extensive destruction as Israeli airstrikes demolished a multi-story building and damaged roads near mosques, leaving at least seven dead.
Western Nuseirat experienced further devastation when tank shelling killed a woman and a child, while an airstrike claimed the lives of five others in a nearby house. In Rafah, close to the Egyptian border, residents reported Israeli tanks advancing deeper into the northern-western parts of the city.
Israel launched its 13-month campaign in Gaza with the stated objective of dismantling Hamas militants. The operation follows the October 7, 2023, Hamas-led assault, during which over 1,200 people were killed and more than 250 hostages taken in Israel. The Gaza Ministry of Health reports that Israeli strikes have since claimed nearly 44,200 lives and displaced almost the entire population of the enclave at least once.
Israeli authorities have not commented on Thursday’s strikes, and details about the overnight operations remain limited.
Efforts to broker a ceasefire have faltered. Qatar, a key mediator, has paused negotiations until both sides demonstrate readiness to make concessions. Meanwhile, U.S. President Joe Biden, who recently announced a ceasefire in the Israel-Hezbollah conflict in Lebanon, called for renewed diplomatic efforts in Gaza.
The prolonged conflict has left Gaza in a dire state, with extensive infrastructure damage and widespread displacement. Health officials and aid organizations continue to warn of an escalating humanitarian crisis, urging immediate action to protect civilians and restore stability.
As international mediators seek a breakthrough, the situation on the ground underscores the urgent need for a sustainable resolution to the enduring conflict.
