Assam: The first Integrated Check Post (ICP) on the India-Bhutan border was inaugurated at Daranga in Assam on Thursday, which the government hoped would help facilitate seamless cross-border movement of travelers and facilitate trade.
This is the first of six such stations planned along the India-Bhutan border to strengthen the border management system and enhance cross-border connectivity, government sources said. The government officials added that it would also facilitate the movement of tourists to India and Bhutan.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Bhutan Prime Minister Dasho Tshering Tobgay said that friendship between the two countries should be built and people-to-people relations are important for that and ICP will play an important role in that. Stating that the ICP will accelerate trade between the two countries, Tobgay invited Indian investors to his country for independent and cooperative ventures.
Especially in the eastern part of the country. "Both countries should make the most of this facility and prosper together," he added. "If we prosper together, the friendship will be stronger," he said, adding that a transit corridor between Bhutan and Bangladesh through Assam has been established, government sources said.
