Eknath Shinde Clarifies Health Concerns Amid Leadership Speculations

Maharashtra’s caretaker Chief Minister, Eknath Shinde, addressed speculations surrounding his recent visit to his native village in Satara, stating that he took the trip to rest after a grueling election schedule. Shinde assured the public he is "doing good now" after recovering from illness.

The Shiv Sena leader traveled to Satara on Friday following a high-level meeting with BJP leaders in Delhi. His trip fueled rumors that he was discontented with discussions surrounding the chief ministerial post. However, a senior Shiv Sena leader dismissed these claims, emphasizing Shinde’s unwavering support for the BJP’s top leadership.

During his stay in Satara, Shinde experienced fever and a throat infection, which were attributed to overexertion during the campaign period. Speaking to reporters, he said, “I had come here to rest after the hectic election schedule. I did not take any leave during my 2.5 years as CM. People continue to visit me here, which is why I fell ill. This government will listen to the people.”

Shinde reaffirmed his "unconditional support" for the BJP’s leadership and stressed that decisions regarding the chief ministerial post would align with their guidance. He also highlighted the accomplishments of his administration, stating, “The work done in Maharashtra over the last 2.5 years will be written in golden letters in history. This is why we received a historic mandate, leaving the opposition unable to elect even a Leader of Opposition. The three allies in the Mahayuti alliance share a strong understanding.”

In a significant announcement, Shinde confirmed that the decision on Maharashtra’s next chief minister would be finalized on Monday, December 2.

Shinde’s health was a concern over the weekend as he developed a high fever. His family doctor, Dr. RM Parte, confirmed he had been placed on intravenous therapy and prescribed medication. “He will feel better in two days and is scheduled to leave for Mumbai on Sunday,” Dr. Parte informed PTI.

The Mahayuti government’s swearing-in ceremony is scheduled for December 5 at Mumbai’s Azad Maidan, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi expected to attend. NCP leader Ajit Pawar disclosed that the chief ministerial role would be allocated to the BJP, while the Shiv Sena and NCP would receive the two deputy chief ministerial positions.
