At least 10 individuals, including five journalists, lost their lives, and over a dozen were injured in Israeli airstrikes on Gaza early Thursday, according to medical officials from Gaza’s health authorities.
One of the strikes targeted a residence in Gaza City’s Zeitoun neighborhood, killing five people and wounding 20. Rescue teams warned that the death toll could rise as several individuals remain trapped beneath the rubble.
In a separate incident, five journalists were killed when an airstrike hit their vehicle near Al-Awda Hospital in Nuseirat, central Gaza. The journalists were affiliated with the Al-Quds Al-Youm television channel. According to Palestinian media and local reporters, the vehicle was clearly marked as a media van and had been used by the journalists to report from the hospital and the Nuseirat refugee camp.
The Israeli military confirmed the strike, stating that its air force “targeted the vehicle deliberately,” alleging the presence of members of the Islamic Jihad militant group inside.
Meanwhile, tensions between Israel and Hamas persist. Despite reports of progress in recent days, both parties failed to reach a ceasefire agreement, trading accusations of responsibility for the stalemate on Wednesday.
Since October 7, 2023, the Gaza Health Ministry reports that 45,361 Palestinians have been killed in the ongoing Israeli military offensive, highlighting the severe humanitarian toll of the conflict.
The situation underscores the urgent need for an immediate ceasefire and impartial investigation to ensure accountability and alleviate the suffering of those caught in the conflict.
