Once again the governing parties are one step closer to victory; Indian Expat candidate Manju Devi failed.

Ireland Election 2024: Once again the governing parties are one step closer to victory in the Irish elections. Fianna Fail and Fine Gael continue to lead as the largest party. Close behind is Sinn Féin. The Green Party is not in the field. Indian Expat candidate Manju Devi failed.

66 of the 174 Dáil seats have been filled so far on the second day of counting for the 2024 General Election. At this stage, strategists expect Fianna Fáil to return as the largest party, expecting up to 48 seats. The Green Party suffered heavy losses and has yet to see any TDs elected. Patrick Costello lost his seat in Dublin South Central this afternoon. 

Fianna Fáil leads in eight of the 43 constituencies with 19 TDs elected now that the votes have been counted. Close behind are Fine Gael with 18 and Sinn Féin with 13 runs. Across all 43, the main parties' first preference vote remains Fianna Fáil at 21.9%, Fine Gael at 20.8% and Sinn Féin at 19.0%.

Sinn Féin's Ross Conway-Walsh is the first TD to be elected today after the sixth count in Mayo. The party also won a seat in Wicklow-Wexford, where Fiondon Ó Cillebain was elected. Lewis O'Hara was selected for Galway East, Sean Crowe for Dublin South West and Mark Ward for Dublin Mid West.

Indian Expat candidate Manju Devi Fianna Fail lost : 940 votes, plus 1 vote, total 941 votes. Housing Minister Darragh O'Brien retained his seat in Fingal East, Dublin, while Mary Butler retained her seat in Waterford for Fianna Fáil. New candidate Albert Dolan in Galway East, Sean Fleming in Leigh, Malcolm Byrne in Wicklow-Wexford, James O'Connor in Cork East, Seamus McGrath in Cork South Central and Dara Callery in Mayo. In a setback for the party, junior minister Ann Rabbitt lost her seat in Galway East.

Public Expenditure Minister Paschal Donohoe retained his seat in Dublin Central, while James Geoghegan won a seat for Fine Gael in Dublin Bay South. The party's Brian Brennan and Grace Boland were elected in Wicklow-Wexford and Dublin Fingal West respectively. Alan Dillon was selected for Mayo, John Cummins for Waterford and Peter Roche for Galway East.

Independent Mattie McGrath retained her seat in Tipperary South, while independent Brian Stanley won the third and final seat in Leash. Gary Gannon of the Social Democrats was re-elected in Dublin Central, where all eyes are now on Gerard Hutch's race for the fourth and final seat.

Party leader Ivana Bacic retained her Dublin Bay South seat as the first Labor TD to be elected. The party's Robert O'Donoghue was also elected in Fingal West, Dublin.
