Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif concluded a two-day official visit to Saudi Arabia on Wednesday, hailed as a significant step towards fostering economic progress and strengthening bilateral relations. Information Minister Attaullah Tarar described the visit as successful, highlighting key advancements in trade, investment, and diplomatic ties.
Addressing Water and Climate Challenges
The Prime Minister’s Office reported that Mr. Sharif attended the One Water Summit in Riyadh, where he proposed a comprehensive six-point agenda to tackle global water-related challenges. He also underscored the climate change-induced issues confronting developing nations, emphasizing the need for collaborative solutions.
MoUs Materializing into Action
During a press conference, Information Minister Tarar detailed the tangible outcomes of the visit. He noted that several Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) signed earlier between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, worth billions of dollars, have been activated. These agreements span agriculture, energy, IT, and mining sectors, promising significant contributions to Pakistan’s economy and job market.
The visit included key meetings with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and French President Emmanuel Macron. Mr. Tarar emphasized that the Prime Minister’s frequent engagements with the Saudi Crown Prince over the last six months—five meetings in total—reflect the strengthening of Pak-Saudi relations.
Saudi Investments and Expanding Partnerships
The Saudi leadership expressed satisfaction over the progress of joint initiatives, including the establishment of Aramco petrol pumps and the introduction of the Al-Baik food chain in Pakistan. Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman reaffirmed Saudi Arabia’s commitment to supporting Pakistan, stating, “Pakistanis are our brothers and sisters, and there is no limit to investment in Pakistan.”
Both leaders agreed to deepen business and investment ties, marking the visit as a milestone in bilateral relations. The Prime Minister extended his good wishes to the Khadim al-Haramayn al-Sharifayn, further reinforcing the strong diplomatic rapport between the two nations.
Economic Stability and International Engagement
The Prime Minister’s visit also focused on Pakistan’s economic stability and international relations. Mr. Tarar highlighted Pakistan’s progress under Shehbaz Sharif’s leadership, including a record-breaking stock market performance, reduced inflation to 4.8%, and stabilized interest rates. These achievements have garnered appreciation from global leaders, he said.
In a bilateral meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron, Mr. Sharif discussed avenues for trade and cooperation, agreeing to bolster business partnerships in agriculture, IT, vocational skills, and clean drinking water sectors.
Looking Ahead
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s visit to Saudi Arabia has solidified Pakistan’s standing on the global stage while paving the way for economic growth and strengthened diplomatic ties. The outcomes of the visit underscore a shared commitment to fostering regional cooperation and addressing global challenges collaboratively.
