Zakir Hussain was born on March 9, 1951 in Mumbai. He entered the world of music at the age of just 12. He started spreading magic with the sound of the tabla from a young age. In 1973, he released his first album, Living in the Material World. From 1979 to 2007, Zakir Hussain demonstrated the power of the tabla at several international festivals and albums.
Honors and awards
Zakir Hussain was awarded the Padma Shri in 1988 at the age of 37. He was later honored with the Padma Bhushan in 2002 for his contributions to the field of music. On March 22, 2023, President Draupadi Murmu honored him with the Padma Vibhushan. Zakir Hussain was honored with the Grammy Award, the most prestigious award in music, in 1992 and 2009.
