Bijapur, Chhattisgarh – Chilkapalli, a remote village located 50 kilometers from the Bijapur district headquarters, has been electrified for the first time since India’s independence, signifying a major step forward in the region’s development. This achievement is part of the Chhattisgarh government’s ambitious "Niyad Nellanar Yojana", which aims to transform remote tribal villages into "ideal villages" by providing essential infrastructure and services.
Historic Achievement Under Niyad Nellanar Yojana
Bijapur Collector Sambit Mishra expressed his elation over the milestone, noting that Chilkapalli is the sixth village in the district to benefit from electrification under this initiative. Speaking to ANI, Mishra said, “It is a matter of great joy that electrification took place in Chilkapalli village on January 23. This is the sixth village where we have completed electrification, and we are working systematically to bring electricity to more villages in the coming months.”
The Niyad Nellanar Yojana, spearheaded by Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, aims to improve the quality of life for tribal communities by providing housing, electricity, drinking water, roads, bridges, and schools in remote areas.
Transforming Daily Life in Chilkapalli
For the residents of Chilkapalli, the arrival of electricity marks a transformative moment. It not only enhances daily living but also fosters opportunities for education and leisure. A tribal woman expressed her relief, saying, “Earlier, there was no electricity here. Now, it helps us cook food and allows our children to study at night.”
Another resident shared similar sentiments: “With electricity, we can now watch TV, cook, and even move around at night without fear.”
Until recently, Chilkapalli lacked even a basic paved road, underscoring the challenges faced in connecting the village to the broader district infrastructure.
Overcoming Challenges to Bring Light
The electrification process was fraught with logistical difficulties due to the region's remote location and rugged terrain. According to Faldoor, an employee of the electricity department, setting up the infrastructure in Chilkapalli took 3–4 months. He explained, “The commute to the village was challenging. Government officials engaged with villagers to facilitate the process. Now, electricity helps them protect themselves from snakes and scorpions, a major concern in the area.”
Security and Stability in the Region
The electrification of Chilkapalli also symbolizes a triumph over adversity, as the region has long been affected by Naxalite insurgency. With the deployment of CRPF forces, security has significantly improved, removing the shadow of Maoism that once hindered development. Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai reaffirmed the government’s commitment to eradicating Naxalism, describing it as a “cancer to society.”
“Our soldiers have achieved immense success, and our government is steadfast in its mission to end Naxalism. We will fulfill the resolution of the Prime Minister and the Home Minister. Naxalism is taking its last breath, and we aim to eliminate it completely by March 31, 2026. I salute the courage of our security personnel,” Sai said.
A New Dawn for Chilkapalli
With electricity, improved security, and ongoing development efforts, Chilkapalli is on the path to becoming a model village. This milestone is a testament to the Chhattisgarh government’s dedication to inclusive development and its vision of transforming even the most remote areas into thriving communities.
