Infosys Co-Founder Kris Gopalakrishnan and Former IISc Director Booked Under SC/ST Act

Bengaluru police have registered a case against Infosys co-founder Senapathy Kris Gopalakrishnan, former Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Director P. Balaram, and 16 others under the Prevention of SC/ST Atrocities Act. The case, registered at the Sadashiva Nagar police station, follows directives from the 71st City Civil and Sessions Court in Bengaluru.

The complaint was filed by Durgappa, a former faculty member at IISc’s Centre for Sustainable Technology, who belongs to the tribal Bovi community. He alleged that he was falsely implicated in a honey-trap case in 2014, which led to his dismissal from service. He further claimed that he was subjected to caste-based abuse and threats.

The accused include prominent IISc faculty members and officials such as Govindan Rangarajan, Sridhar Warrier, Sandya Vishweshwariah, Hari KVS, Dasappa, Hemalata Mhishi, Chattopadyaya K, Pradeep D. Sawkar, and Manoharan.

As of now, neither IISc nor Kris Gopalakrishnan has issued a public statement regarding the allegations.

Who Is Kris Gopalakrishnan?

Kris Gopalakrishnan is one of the co-founders of Infosys and a prominent figure in India’s tech industry. He served as the Vice Chairman of Infosys from 2011 to 2014 and was its CEO and Managing Director between 2007 and 2011.

A recipient of the prestigious Padma Bhushan in 2011, Gopalakrishnan has also held prominent positions outside Infosys. He was elected President of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) for 2013-14 and served as a co-chair of the World Economic Forum in Davos in 2014.

Gopalakrishnan holds master’s degrees in physics and computer science from IIT Madras. He is a Fellow of the Indian National Academy of Engineering (INAE) and an Honorary Fellow of the Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (IETE).
