Mumbai: Maharashtra Minister Nitesh Rane has written to Education Minister Dada Bhuse, urging the prohibition of burqa inside Class 10 and Class 12 state board examination centres. Citing concerns over potential malpractice, Rane emphasized the need for a transparent and fair examination process.

In his letter, Rane pointed out that students wearing burqa may pose challenges in ensuring a strict anti-cheating environment. While government guidelines currently allow students to wear burqa, with provisions for inspection by female officers or teaching staff if necessary, Rane stressed that monitoring electronic devices concealed under burqa could be difficult.
Highlighting the significance of board exams in shaping a student's future, Rane urged the immediate issuance of directives to prohibit burqa inside exam centres to prevent security concerns, law-and-order issues, and disruptions for other students.
This request is expected to spark discussions on examination security, religious attire, and student rights in Maharashtra’s academic and political circles. The Education Ministry is yet to respond to the letter.
