India-EU Relations Gain Momentum: Key Discussions Between Prime Minister Modi and European Commission President von der Leyen

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen held a crucial meeting on Friday, focusing on enhancing the strategic partnership between India and the European Union (EU). During the meeting, both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to finalizing the India-EU Free Trade Agreement (FTA) by the end of this year. IMEEC and Its Impact on Global Trade

Prime Minister Modi highlighted the strategic significance of the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEEC) and stressed that concrete steps will be taken to advance this initiative. He expressed confidence that IMEEC would serve as a key driver for global commerce, sustainable development, and economic prosperity.

Cooperation in the Indo-Pacific and Security Partnership

During the discussions, India and the EU underscored the importance of peace, security, stability, and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region. President von der Leyen stated that the EU is exploring the possibility of a future "security partnership" with India, similar to its agreements with Japan and South Korea.

Referring to global geopolitical shifts, she noted that the evolving power dynamics offer India and the EU an opportunity to redefine their collaboration. She also acknowledged India's efforts to diversify its military supply chains and enhance its defense capabilities. In this context, she emphasized the need to further strengthen defense cooperation between India and the EU.

This high-level dialogue highlights the growing commitment of both India and the European Union to addressing global challenges and advancing their bilateral cooperation to new heights.
