Lucknow – Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Dr. Ashutosh Verma Patel has accused the Uttar Pradesh government of diverting attention from its alleged failures during the Maha Kumbh by targeting the Samajwadi Party.
Speaking to the media, Patel criticized the Yogi Adityanath-led government, claiming that instead of addressing pressing public concerns, it was engaged in a political smear campaign. "The Yogi government has one problem: rather than focusing on people's issues, they are fixated on attacking the Samajwadi Party," he stated.
Patel further alleged that the Maha Kumbh event was marred by mismanagement, citing multiple fatalities, incidents of fire, massive traffic congestion spanning hundreds of kilometers, and general chaos that pilgrims had to endure. "The event was a total failure, yet the government refuses to acknowledge it. Instead, they are setting a new agenda to portray the Samajwadi Party as the villain," he added.
The Uttar Pradesh government has yet to respond to these allegations. However, the Maha Kumbh, a significant religious gathering, has frequently been a subject of political debate, with opposition parties often questioning the administration’s handling of the massive influx of pilgrims.
