New Delhi – BJP leader Praveen Khandelwal on Wednesday launched a sharp attack on the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government, accusing it of gross negligence and misuse of healthcare resources during the COVID-19 pandemic. Khandelwal alleged that essential medical supplies procured at minimal cost remained unutilized, depriving citizens of critical healthcare support at a time of crisis.
"The AAP government had zero interest in safeguarding the health of Delhi’s people," Khandelwal stated. "Had these medical facilities been provided during COVID-19, citizens would have credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Perhaps this is why AAP allowed them to go to waste instead of distributing them to those in need." He further accused the government of intentionally withholding medical aid, asserting that those who required urgent relief were left abandoned.
Delhi CM Highlights Large-Scale Medical Waste at GTB Hospital
The allegations surfaced a day after Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta inspected GTB Hospital, exposing what she described as widespread wastage of essential medical resources. During her visit, Gupta highlighted that crucial medical supplies worth crores had remained unused since the pandemic, while hospital infrastructure was left in a non-functional state.
"The entire storage facility is overflowing," Gupta stated. "There are 458 oxygen concentrators, 146 ventilators, 36,000 PPE kits, and various other medical supplies that have remained untouched since COVID-19. This is not an isolated case—hospital godowns across the city are packed with similar unused material. Equipment worth crores is being wasted."
The Chief Minister further criticized the previous administration for reckless expenditure on incomplete infrastructure projects, stating, “Seven semi-permanent hospital buildings, worth ₹12,000 crore, remain unfinished. Not a single one is operational.” She also pointed out severe deficiencies in staffing, revealing that only one MD was responsible for four major hospitals.
Political Fallout and Public Engagement
As the controversy over healthcare mismanagement intensified, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta engaged with the public at a ‘Jan Milan Samaroh’ held at her residence on Wednesday. The event saw a large gathering of citizens and party supporters who extended greetings and engaged in discussions with the Chief Minister. Several dignitaries and party members were also present at the gathering.
With the BJP now stepping up its criticism of AAP’s governance, particularly its widely publicized health and education model, the issue of wastage of public funds and medical resources is likely to remain at the forefront of political discourse in Delhi.
