Gardaí Appeal for Witnesses Following Fatal Cork Collision

Cork, Ireland – Gardaí have issued an appeal for witnesses following a fatal two-car collision in Cork that claimed the lives of two women and left two children hospitalized with serious injuries.

The incident, which occurred on the N72 Navigation Road in Mallow at approximately 3:45 p.m. on Sunday, marks the second fatal crash in Munster within just over an hour. Earlier, another woman lost her life in a separate three-vehicle collision in Waterford.

Emergency services arrived at the scene within minutes. The drivers of both vehicles, women aged in their 60s and 40s, were pronounced dead at the scene. Their remains have been transferred to the mortuary at Cork University Hospital, where post-mortem examinations will be conducted.

A boy and a girl, aged eight and five, who were passengers in the vehicle driven by the woman in her 40s, sustained serious injuries and were transported to Cork University Hospital. Their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening at this time.

The N72 remains closed while forensic investigators examine the scene, with local diversions currently in place.

In a statement, a Garda spokesperson urged anyone with information to come forward:

"Gardaí are appealing for witnesses following a fatal two-vehicle road traffic collision on the N72, Navigation Road, Mallow, Co. Cork, on Sunday, March 30, 2025. Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were traveling in the area between 3:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. are asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí."
