Thiruvananthapuram, March 24 (ANI) – Newly elected BJP Kerala President Rajeev Chandrasekhar on Monday vowed to provide an alternative political vision for the state, which he claimed had been "ravaged" by the ruling fronts LDF and UDF over the past 70 years.
A Vision for ‘Viksit Kerala’
Addressing the media after his appointment, Chandrasekhar underscored his commitment to revamping Kerala’s economy, attracting investments, and creating opportunities for the youth.
"This is a significant honour for me. It is a huge opportunity to serve my state. We know that we have to bring change to Kerala. We also know that to bring effective change to the lives of the people of Kerala, to the economy of Kerala, to bring investments, to create opportunities for the youth, we have to be in government," he stated.
He further emphasized the BJP’s mission to break the political stronghold of the LDF and UDF, adding:
"Our goal is that we will make a very strong effort to provide an alternative to the state that the two fronts have ravaged over the last 70 years. Kerala today is in decline, and we want Kerala to be 'Viksit Kerala'."
Unanimous Selection and Strategic Move
Earlier in the day, Chandrasekhar was unanimously elected as BJP’s Kerala president, with Union Minister Prahlad Joshi officially announcing the decision. His selection was finalized at a core committee meeting, chaired by BJP central observer Pralhad Joshi.
Welcoming his appointment, Union Minister Suresh Gopi expressed confidence in Chandrasekhar’s leadership:
"Under Rajeev Chandrasekhar's leadership, the party will reach the next level of performance, for which all of us are getting more equipped to support him."
A Rising Political Force in Kerala
Chandrasekhar’s elevation is seen as a strategic move by the BJP, aiming to capitalize on the momentum the party has been building in Kerala. His 2024 Lok Sabha contest against Congress leader Shashi Tharoor in Thiruvananthapuram was a testament to this growing influence.
Despite losing by a narrow margin of 16,077 votes, Chandrasekhar significantly boosted BJP’s vote share to 35.52%, outperforming veteran leader O. Rajagopal’s previous tally of 32.32% in the constituency.
As Chandrasekhar assumes leadership, all eyes are on how BJP's Kerala unit will shape its strategy ahead of the next electoral battle, with an ambitious vision for a "developed Kerala."
