Sukma (Chhattisgarh), March 29: A fierce encounter between security forces and Naxals is currently underway in the Kerlapal area of Sukma district, Chhattisgarh. The operation commenced following a joint anti-Naxal mission launched by the District Reserve Guard (DRG) and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) on Friday.
According to officials, the operation was initiated based on specific intelligence inputs indicating the presence of Naxals in the Kerlapal area under the Sukma police station limits. Acting on this intelligence, a joint team of security personnel set out on a search mission on March 28. Since early morning today (March 29), intermittent firing has been reported from the encounter site.
Security forces are conducting a meticulous combing operation in the area, focusing on the dense forested terrain where the confrontation is taking place. Authorities have stated that a comprehensive statement will be released after the conclusion of the ongoing operation.
Sukma remains one of the most Naxal-affected districts in Chhattisgarh's Bastar region, which has witnessed numerous deadly attacks in the past. The region continues to be a stronghold for Maoist insurgents, necessitating frequent anti-Naxal operations by security agencies.
Meanwhile, in a separate incident on Friday, a security personnel was injured after an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) planted by Naxalites detonated in Narayanpur district of Chhattisgarh. The explosion occurred in the Bedmakoti area, injuring a jawan who was promptly shifted to the District Hospital in Narayanpur for medical treatment.
Bastar Inspector General (IG) Sundarraj P confirmed the incident, stating, "One jawan was injured during an IED blast planted by Maoists towards Bedmakoti. The injured soldier is receiving treatment at the District Hospital in Narayanpur." The IG further assured that after initial medical care, the soldier's condition has stabilized.
The ongoing encounter in Sukma and the recent IED blast highlight the persistent security challenges posed by Naxal insurgents in Chhattisgarh. Authorities remain on high alert as counter-insurgency operations continue in the region.
