Chennai – Tamil Nadu Minister K.N. Nehru informed the state assembly that discussions are underway with Chief Minister M.K. Stalin regarding the elevation of two more municipalities to municipal corporations.
During a session of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly’s budget discussions, Minister Nehru highlighted the state’s rapid urban growth and infrastructure development. He stated that 16 major projects, including the Okenakkal Combined Drinking Water Project and the Karur-Trichy Combined Drinking Water Project, are being implemented at a total cost of ₹14,875 crore.
Tamil Nadu continues to be a leading state in urban development, with significant progress in infrastructure projects. Over the past four years, the government has established 10 new municipal corporations and 31 municipalities, alongside roadworks worth ₹10,000 crore. Various urban development initiatives are being executed through affiliated organizations to ensure sustainable growth.
The minister’s announcements come as part of the ongoing budget session discussions, where key infrastructure and governance policies are being debated to enhance urban planning and public services across the state.
