Mumbai, April 9, 2025 — In a significant development in the Saif Ali Khan stabbing case, the Bandra Police have filed a comprehensive chargesheet in Mumbai’s Metropolitan Magistrate Court. The 1,000-page document reportedly lays out extensive evidence against the accused, identified as Mohammad Shariful Islam.
According to reports from The Free Press Journal, the chargesheet includes results from facial recognition analysis, fingerprint verification, a formal identification parade, and a detailed forensic lab report. These findings are expected to play a crucial role in the legal proceedings against the accused.
The chargesheet filing comes just days after Mumbai Police formally opposed Islam’s bail plea, citing the severity of the crime and the risk of flight. Police officials informed the court that forensic evidence had confirmed that a knife fragment found near Saif Ali Khan’s spine matched both a similar fragment discovered at the crime scene and the weapon recovered from the accused.
Authorities also argued that Islam, a Bangladeshi national residing illegally in India, poses a flight risk. "The nature of the offence is extremely serious, and the available evidence is substantial," police stated in their opposition to bail. The court was urged to consider the potential risk of the accused absconding if released.
The incident, which took place in the early hours of January 16, sent shockwaves through the entertainment industry. As per police accounts, the attack occurred at around 2 AM when Saif Ali Khan heard disturbances from his son Jeh’s room. Upon investigation, he discovered that a female staff member had been attacked. The actor intervened, leading to a physical confrontation in which both he and the employee sustained injuries.
Investigators allege that Islam broke into Khan’s Bandra residence with the intent to commit robbery. During the break-in, he is believed to have used a wooden weapon and a sharp blade to assault the occupants. Saif Ali Khan was stabbed six times and subsequently hospitalized. He was discharged on January 21 after receiving treatment for his injuries.
With the chargesheet now submitted and forensic evidence bolstering the case, proceedings against the accused are expected to move forward swiftly. The case continues to draw public attention as one of the most high-profile criminal incidents involving a Bollywood personality in recent years.
