Ahmedabad (Gujarat), April 8 : In what is being hailed as a defining moment for the Indian National Congress, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister and Congress leader DK Shivakumar on Tuesday described the ongoing Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting and the All India Congress Committee (AICC) session as a “turning point” for the party.
Shivakumar, who also serves as the President of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC), arrived in Ahmedabad to participate in the two-day deliberations scheduled for April 8 and 9.
"We had a meeting of all the District Congress Committee (DCC) presidents in Delhi. A lot of leaders have given suggestions, and we are going to discuss those. It will be a turning point for the Congress party in the future," Shivakumar told ANI.
Further elaborating on the party’s organisational priorities, he said the Congress leadership is determined to empower local units and rejuvenate grassroots engagement.
“We are conducting a historic AICC session... we have decided that this year will be the year of organisation. Under the presidentship of Mallikarjun Kharge, and leadership of Rahul Gandhi, we want to revamp the entire country’s organisation. We want to give more strength to cadres of the party from district level to block level,” he added.
In the lead-up to the session, senior party leader and Chairman of the Congress Media and Publicity Department, Pawan Khera, voiced confidence that the resolutions adopted during the convention would shape the party’s political roadmap and offer a renewed sense of direction.
Speaking to ANI, Khera reflected on Gujarat’s historic legacy and its symbolic resonance with the Congress party.
“Gujarat has always shown the way—Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and Mahatma Gandhi showed the way to the nation and Congress at a time when it appeared that dark clouds surrounded the nation. Today, again, it is time for Congress to take inspiration from Gujarat. I can say for certain that the resolutions that come out of the discussions held in this conference will change the course of politics in the country,” he said.
This 84th National Convention of the AICC marks a significant return to Gujarat after a hiatus of 64 years. The convention, set against the scenic backdrop of the Sabarmati Riverfront, is expected to be a landmark gathering. Key leaders in attendance include Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, senior leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, along with AICC General Secretary KC Venugopal.
Congress MP and party General Secretary Jairam Ramesh had earlier underlined the Congress party’s enduring association with Gujarat, and confirmed that the sessions would take place under the leadership of President Mallikarjun Kharge.
