Congress Party Condemns Pahalgam Terror Attack, Urges Unity and Discipline

 New Delhi, April 30, 2025 – The All India Congress Committee (AICC), through its General Secretary K.C. Venugopal, M.P., has expressed deep anguish over the recent reprehensible terror attack in Pahalgam. In a letter dated April 29, 2025, addressed to party colleagues, Venugopal emphasized the party’s unwavering solidarity with the nation during this hour of grief.

The statement from the Congress General Secretary comes in the backdrop of a recent post by the 'Congress Kerala' X handle, which criticized the central government over the Pahalgam attack—an issue that has since been weaponized by Pakistan.

The Congress party, at a critical juncture where collective resolve is being tested, calls for exemplifying unity, maturity, and responsibility—virtues that have defined its conduct through decades of national service, both in government and opposition. The letter references a unanimous resolution adopted by the Congress Working Committee (CWC) on April 24, 2025, setting forth the party’s clear and considered stance on the Pahalgam attack. This resolution is to serve as the sole basis for all public expressions of the party’s position on the matter.

Venugopal directed that all comments, statements, and representations—whether by party leaders, spokespersons, media panelists, or official handles of the Congress Social Media Department—must strictly adhere to the CWC resolution. Any deviation or off-the-cuff remark that diverges from the official line will be deemed a serious breach of party discipline.

The Congress leader highlighted the nation’s demand for justice for the families of innocent citizens who lost their lives and accountability from the government. He reiterated the party’s historical commitment to shouldering responsibilities with a profound sense of national duty, consistently placing national interest above all else, especially during moments of national crisis.

In a call for discipline, Venugopal instructed all functionaries to exercise utmost consistency in public communication. Those authorized to speak on behalf of the party must confine themselves to the CWC’s stated position. Any contravention of this directive will invite strict disciplinary action without exception.
