Several people who visited the Marlborough Grange Farm in Wales, a tourist destination in the UK, have been diagnosed with cryptosporidium disease.
At least 28 people have been infected with this suspected epidemic, so the health department is conducting further investigations.
Participants in feeding and petting sessions for calves and lambs at the Cowbridge Farm Shop at Marlborough Grange Farm in Cowbridge have been found to have contracted the infectious bug Cryptosporidium - sometimes called crypto.
Cryptosporidium is a parasite that lives in the feces of infected animals and causes disease in humans. Symptoms of the disease include diarrhea, abdominal pain, and nausea or vomiting. It can also cause disease in humans.
Cryptosporidium is spread by touching objects that have come into direct contact with feces from another person or animal, for example when changing a diaper, petting an animal, or putting your hands to your mouth without washing them thoroughly.
Most people with a healthy immune system will recover without treatment if they make sure to drink plenty of fluids to avoid dehydration. The NHS recommends that people with this condition avoid alcohol and take simple painkillers to help with stomach pain.
Marlborough Grange Farm said in a short statement that it would be suspending its petting and feeding experiences due to "unforeseen circumstances."
