Srinagar: A top Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) commander, identified as Altaf Lally, was killed in an ongoing encounter between security forces and militants in the Bandipora district of Jammu and Kashmir, according to official sources. The exchange of fire, which began after a cordon and search operation, remains active as of the latest reports.
Security forces had launched a search operation in the Kulnar-Bazipora area of Bandipora following intelligence inputs about the presence of armed militants. The situation escalated when militants opened fire on the advancing security personnel, prompting a fierce gunfight.
Meanwhile, Union Home Minister Amit Shah is expected to chair a high-level meeting today to assess the prevailing security situation in the Kashmir Valley, particularly in light of the recent rise in terror-related incidents.
In a separate development, authorities have demolished the homes of two local militants believed to be involved in the recent terror attack in Pahalgam. According to reports from Press Trust of India (PTI), the houses of Adil Hussain Thokar of Anantnag and Asif Sheikh of Pulwama were razed by the local administration late last night.
Police had earlier released photographs and identity details of the two individuals. National media sources suggest that explosive materials were found inside the demolished structures, further linking the suspects to terror activities in the region.
The developments come amid heightened tensions in the Valley, following a deadly attack in Pahalgam that left multiple civilians dead and prompted intensified counterterrorism efforts by Indian security agencies.
