Noida, April 8 – A major public health concern has emerged at Ajnara Homes Society in Greater Noida, where more than 200 residents have reported illness over the past two days, prompting urgent investigations into a possible contamination of the drinking water supply.
Residents began exhibiting symptoms such as stomach pain, vomiting, and diarrhoea over the weekend, with several cases escalating to severe conditions. At least one individual was hospitalised on Monday due to complications.
Chandan Sinha, President of the Apartment Owners Association (AOA), stated that the majority of cases have been reported from towers M, J, K, and A. “However, by Tuesday, similar complaints were emerging from nearly all towers. Given that each tower has a separate overhead tank, we suspect contamination in the society’s common groundwater source,” he explained.
The situation has sparked widespread concern among residents, particularly for vulnerable groups such as children and the elderly. “The issue appears to be linked to tap water consumption. The elderly and young children are the most affected,” said a resident of J Tower.
In response, officials from the Noida Health Department visited the premises and collected water samples for testing. Chief Medical Officer Narendra Kumar confirmed that investigations are underway. “A health camp will be established at the society starting Wednesday. Water quality reports are awaited and will guide further action,” he said.
In the interim, two private health camps were organised by the AOA in partnership with local hospitals. “As of Tuesday morning, over 60 residents had reported diarrhoeal symptoms at the health camps,” Sinha added.
The incident has raised questions about water safety and infrastructure oversight in urban residential societies. Authorities have assured residents that the matter is being treated with urgency and that remedial measures will be taken based on the findings of the ongoing investigation.
