Bangkok — Nobel Laureate and Bangladesh's Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus presented a commemorative photograph to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a bilateral meeting held on the sidelines of the BIMSTEC Summit in Bangkok on Friday.
The photograph, dating back to January 3, 2015, captures a moment from the 102nd Indian Science Congress, where Prime Minister Modi awarded a gold medal to Professor Yunus in recognition of his contributions to social innovation and economic development.
The Government of Bangladesh shared the image and noted: “Professor Muhammad Yunus is seen presenting a photo to Prime Minister Narendra Modi during their bilateral meeting in Bangkok on Friday. Friday’s engagement marked the first face-to-face interaction between the two leaders since the departure of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina from office in August 2024. Their meeting came amidst the BIMSTEC (Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation) summit, which brought together regional leaders to advance dialogue on trade, connectivity, and sustainable development.
The exchange between Professor Yunus and Prime Minister Modi was viewed as a symbolic gesture reflecting the enduring ties between India and Bangladesh in the fields of science, technology, and regional cooperation.
