Cyclist Killed in Collision with Car in Dublin; Gardaí Appeal for Witnesses

A man in his 60s has died following a fatal road traffic collision involving a bicycle and a car in Dublin on Monday evening.

Emergency services responded to the incident on the R139 in the Dublin 17 area shortly after 8:00 p.m. The cyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. His body has since been removed to Dublin City Mortuary, where a post-mortem examination will be conducted.

The R139, which connects Junction 3 of the M50 to Malahide Road at Clare Hall, was temporarily closed in both directions to facilitate a forensic examination by Garda Collision Investigators. The road has since reopened to traffic.

Gardaí have launched an appeal for witnesses and are particularly interested in speaking to anyone who was in the area between 7:30 p.m. and 8:15 p.m. on Monday, 5 May. They are also seeking dashcam footage from road users who may have been travelling on the R139 during that time.

In a statement, a Garda spokesperson said:
"Emergency services and Gardaí responded to a collision involving a bicycle and a car shortly after 8pm. The cyclist, a man in his 60s, was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later. A technical examination of the scene was carried out by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators, and the Coroner has been notified."

Anyone with information is urged to contact Coolock Garda Station on 01 666 4200, the Garda Confidential Line at 1800 666 111, or any Garda station.
