Foreign Secretary Draws Link Between Pakistan Army Chief’s Remarks and Pahalgam Attack

In a strongly worded statement during a press briefing on Thursday, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri drew a pointed connection between recent communal rhetoric by Pakistan Army Chief General Asim Munir and the deadly terror attack in Pahalgam that claimed 26 innocent lives.

Referring to Munir’s April 16 address, in which the Pakistani military leader reiterated his country’s longstanding position on Kashmir—calling it the nation’s “jugular vein”—Misri criticized the tone and content of the remarks. In that speech, Munir had urged Pakistanis to share narratives with their children to remind them they are “different from Hindus.”

“Pakistan Army Chief’s speech from April was a communal rhetoric. There could be links between his speech and the Pahalgam terror attack,” Misri stated, underscoring concerns over the influence of incendiary messaging on cross-border terrorism.

The remarks were made during a Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) briefing on ‘Operation Sindoor,’ India’s recent counter-terror operation targeting militant infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. The briefing was also addressed by Colonel Sofiya Qureshi and Wing Commander Vyomika Singh, who provided operational insights.
