Kolkata, May 21, 2025 – West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday instructed administrative and police officials in the northern part of the state to heighten vigilance in response to potential cross-border threats and the risk of flooding due to heavy rainfall. The directives were issued during a high-level administrative meeting held as part of her ongoing three-day visit to northern West Bengal, a region she described as "highly sensitive" due to its proximity to international borders with Nepal, Bhutan, and Bangladesh.
Addressing the officials, Banerjee emphasized the strategic importance of the region and called for intensified patrolling to thwart any attempts at infiltration, particularly by anti-national elements. She urged the police and administration to remain proactive in safeguarding the area, which serves as a critical geopolitical corridor. Additionally, the Chief Minister highlighted the need for preparedness in the face of potential flooding, as heavy rains threaten to disrupt the region.
The meeting underscores the state government’s focus on bolstering security and disaster readiness in northern West Bengal, a region vital to India’s national security and prone to natural calamities.
