New Delhi, May 1, 2025 — A seemingly minor road mishap in West Delhi’s Najafgarh area turned into a deadly encounter earlier this month, culminating in the murder of a 40-year-old man in a case that underscores the dangerous mix of alcohol, anger, and misplaced trust.
The incident occurred around 11 p.m. on April 13, when Jagwinder Singhania was refuelling his motorbike at a local petrol station. According to investigators, a black Scorpio SUV struck his vehicle from behind, shattering several beer bottles he was carrying. The SUV’s driver, later identified as Rohit Singh, reportedly apologised and extended an invitation to share a drink — a gesture that would soon take a fatal turn.
Singhania, leaving his motorbike at the station, purchased more alcohol and joined Rohit in the SUV. The two drove to a secluded area nearby, where they continued drinking. However, what began as a conciliatory gesture soon descended into a violent altercation. Police sources indicate that an argument erupted over the cost of the broken beer bottles, during which Rohit allegedly struck Jagwinder on the head with a brick.
The blow proved fatal. In an apparent effort to conceal the crime, Rohit is believed to have placed the victim’s body in the SUV and driven approximately two kilometres to the Bakkarwala drain, where he disposed of both the body and the brick.
When Jagwinder failed to return home and his phone remained unreachable, his wife filed a missing person’s report at Baba Haridas Nagar police station on April 14. The investigation gained momentum the following day when his motorbike was discovered abandoned on Firni Road. CCTV footage from the petrol station provided a crucial lead, showing Jagwinder entering a black Scorpio.
Following a review of similar vehicles in the vicinity, investigators narrowed their focus to three suspects. On April 30, Rohit Singh was taken into custody. During interrogation, he reportedly confessed to the crime, admitting that the conflict arose following the initial collision and escalated fatally during their drinking session.
The decomposed remains of Jagwinder Singhania were recovered from the Bakkarwala drain and later identified by his family based on the clothing.
This tragic case offers a stark reminder of how swiftly and fatally ordinary situations can spiral when fuelled by alcohol and unchecked aggression. What began as a random encounter between two strangers ended in an irreversible loss — leaving a family devastated and a community reeling.
