Operation Sindoor: Government Briefs Political Leaders as India Executes Precision Strikes on Terror Infrastructure

 New Delhi — An all-party meeting is currently underway in the national capital as the central government formally briefs political leaders on Operation Sindoor, a coordinated military response by Indian armed forces targeting nine terror infrastructures across Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). The operation follows the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam that left 26 civilians dead, including one foreign national.

In keeping with a calibrated and non-escalatory posture, Indian forces deliberately avoided targeting any Pakistani military facilities during the strikes. Defence sources confirmed the operation was aimed squarely at neutralizing launchpads and training camps used by proscribed terrorist outfits operating from across the Line of Control.

As a retaliatory measure, Pakistani forces resorted to intense shelling in the border areas of Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district, resulting in the death of 12 civilians and injuries to over 50 others. The escalation has led to heightened tensions along the LoC, with security forces on high alert.

Among those confirmed killed in the Indian missile strike on the Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) headquarters in Bahawalpur are ten members of the family of JeM chief Maulana Masood Azhar and four of his close associates. The facility, long known as a hub for extremist indoctrination and training, was a prime target in the operation.

The operation represents a significant step in India's evolving counter-terrorism strategy, signaling a willingness to act decisively against cross-border threats while avoiding direct military conflict with the Pakistani state.

Meanwhile, the Press Information Bureau (PIB) has issued a fact-check debunking claims circulating on Pakistani social media suggesting that a drone operated by Indian forces was intercepted in Gujranwala. According to the PIB, the image being circulated is outdated and has no connection to current operations.

Following the strikes, reports of disinformation and doctored visuals have proliferated across various Pakistani news outlets and official channels. A recent video, widely shared on social platforms, captured Lashkar-e-Taiba commander Hafiz Abdul Rauf leading funeral prayers for operatives killed in India’s precision strikes, further highlighting the state’s tacit support for terror elements.

National Security Advisor Ajit Doval was seen leaving Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s residence at 7 Lok Kalyan Marg on Wednesday, underscoring the high-level coordination involved in the execution and aftermath of the operation.

Public sentiment within India has largely favored the government’s firm stance, with widespread praise on social media for what many view as a decisive blow to state-sponsored terrorism. However, a minority of dissenting voices online has triggered a wave of public vigilance, with some users alerting authorities to posts perceived as unsupportive or critical of the operation.
