Speaking to local media, Prime Minister Sharif revealed that he received an urgent call from Chief of Army Staff General Asim Munir in the early hours of May 10, shortly after Indian forces launched precision strikes on Pakistani territory.
“It was around 2:30 AM when General Asim Munir called to inform me that India had struck the Nur Khan Air Base,” Sharif stated.
Located in Chaklala, Rawalpindi, near the capital Islamabad, Nur Khan Air Base is one of the Pakistan Air Force’s most critical installations. It serves as the logistical and strategic airlift hub of the PAF and houses the VIP transport squadron responsible for the air travel of Pakistan’s civilian and military leadership.
Sharif went on to describe the moment he received the call:
“It was morning, and I happened to be swimming. I had my secure phone with me, and it rang. General Munir was on the line. He told me we had given a powerful military response, and that India was now seeking a ceasefire.”
The Prime Minister praised the armed forces for what he characterized as a strong and effective counterstrike.
“I told him this was a matter of national pride — that our forces responded with strength, and now the adversary is calling for a ceasefire,” he said.
The ceasefire was formally established on May 10 through direct communication between the Director Generals of Military Operations (DGMOs) of both nations. While both sides agreed to halt all hostilities across land, air, and sea, India emphasized that its counter-terrorism posture remains unchanged and reaffirmed its right to respond to any future violations.
India also reiterated that any dialogue with Pakistan going forward would be contingent on tangible progress in combating terrorism emanating from its territory.
