Dallas: Saji George, an Indian-American, was sworn in as the mayor of Sunnyvale City, Texas. This is Saji George's third term as mayor. Saji George defeated his only opponent, Paul Kesh, by a large majority in the city mayoral election held on May 3.
The swearing-in ceremony was held at 7 p.m. on Monday, May 12 at Sunnyvale City Hall and was administered by Texas State Representative Rhita Bowers. The swearing-in ceremony began with a prayer by Pastor Shaji K. Daniel. Many people, including Regin John, the vicar of St. Paul's Parish in Dallas, attended the ceremony.
Saji George is the first Keralite in America to be elected mayor three times in a row. Sunnyvale is a rapidly growing city in Texas. Sunnyvale ISD is one of the top high schools in Texas. In 2012, D. Magazin named Sunnyvale the whitest town in North Texas. Sunnyvale is 6 percent African American and 8 percent Hispanic.
