Two Turkish Operatives Killed in Operation Sindoor; India Blocks TRT Over Military Links with Pakistan

New Delhi — Two Turkish military operatives were reportedly killed during India’s recent military action, Operation Sindoor, shedding light on deepening defence cooperation between Turkey and Pakistan. According to senior security sources, Turkey not only supplied Pakistan with over 350 drones but also provided operational personnel to assist in their deployment against India.

The revelation underscores Turkey’s growing involvement in South Asian geopolitics, particularly in support of Pakistan during its conflict with India. Turkish defence advisors are believed to have played a direct role in guiding the Pakistan Army's drone operations following the commencement of Operation Sindoor.

Intelligence inputs indicate that Pakistan deployed Turkish-origin Bayraktar TB2 and YIHA drones for reconnaissance, target designation, and possible kamikaze-style attacks aimed at disrupting Indian forward posts and military convoys.

Speaking at a press briefing, Colonel Sofiya Qureshi of the Indian Army stated, “Preliminary forensic analysis of downed UAVs suggests the use of Turkish Asisguard Songar drones. Our armed forces successfully neutralized many of these aerial threats using a combination of kinetic and non-kinetic countermeasures.”

Colonel Qureshi added that the scale of the drone assault — estimated between 300 and 400 drones on the nights of May 7 and 8 — appeared aimed at testing India’s air defence systems and collecting strategic intelligence along the northern and western frontiers.

India’s security establishment has expressed concern over the growing defence nexus between Ankara and Islamabad. In recent years, Turkey has not only supplied Pakistan with key military hardware but also provided training for its personnel. Analysts believe that expanded post-Covid Indian exports to Turkey, including aluminium, auto parts, aviation components, and telecommunications equipment, may have indirectly contributed to Ankara’s drone production capabilities.

Amid the fallout from Operation Sindoor, India on Wednesday blocked the X (formerly Twitter) account of Turkish state broadcaster TRT, citing Ankara’s direct military support to Pakistan during the four-day conflict. The Army confirmed that Turkish drones were used to strike 36 Indian military installations from Leh to Sir Creek.

Earlier in the day, India had also blocked X accounts of Chinese state-run media outlets — Xinhua and Global Times — over the dissemination of content deemed misleading and aligned with Pakistani narratives, despite prior diplomatic warnings issued through the Indian Embassy in Beijing.

The developments mark a new chapter in India’s diplomatic recalibration and strategic communication amid evolving regional security threats.
