Kennedy Space Center, Florida | June 25, 2025 – The Axiom-4 mission, carrying Indian astronaut Wing Commander Shubhanshu Shukla, was successfully launched on Wednesday from NASA’s Kennedy Space Center, marking a significant milestone in India’s human spaceflight journey. The spacecraft is scheduled to dock with the International Space Station (ISS) at 6:30 AM ET (4:00 PM IST).
In his second transmission from space, Shukla shared an emotional message: “Namaskar from space! I am thrilled to be here with my fellow astronauts. What a ride it was.” Expressing gratitude to his family and supporters, he added, “This is a proud moment for the country.”
Shukla, an accomplished Indian Air Force pilot and trained ISRO astronaut, serves as the pilot of the Axiom-4 mission. His voyage marks a historic moment, making him the second Indian to travel to space—four decades after Rakesh Sharma’s iconic mission in 1984. His participation underscores India’s resurgence in human space exploration and its expanding role in international space collaboration.
The Axiom-4 crew is led by veteran astronaut and commander Dr. Peggy Whitson, alongside mission specialists Sławosz Uznański-Wiśniewski and Tibor Kapu. Upon arrival at the ISS, the team will be welcomed by the seven-member Expedition 73 crew. Following initial greetings and a live Earth-to-space call for public remarks, the Axiom-4 astronauts will undergo a mandatory safety orientation aboard the station, as outlined by NASA.
The mission represents a landmark step in commercial and international crewed spaceflight and highlights India’s growing contributions to the global space community.
