Union Minister and Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) chief Chirag Paswan has expressed a strong inclination to return to state politics, citing his long-standing commitment to Bihar’s development. Speaking to reporters on Monday, Paswan reaffirmed that his political journey has always been rooted in the interests of Bihar and its people.
“I have consistently maintained that my heart lies in Bihar. The sole reason I entered politics was for the betterment of Bihar and Biharis,” Paswan stated, adding that he has communicated his desire to the party leadership to re-engage in state-level governance. “I envision Bihar as a developed state, but I have come to realise that contributing to that goal is not fully possible while being in Delhi,” he added.
Paswan, currently serving as a Member of Parliament for the third consecutive term, underlined his long-standing vision of “Bihar First, Bihari First”, reiterating his belief that transformational change can be better achieved from within the state’s political arena.
Party Reviewing Candidature for State Polls
While Paswan has openly expressed interest in contesting the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections, he clarified that the party is still in the process of evaluating the strategic merits of such a move. “If our alliance performs well and my individual strike rate improves—which seems highly likely—I will definitely contest,” he affirmed.
His remarks follow reports from CNN-News18 indicating that the parliamentary board of the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) has internally resolved that Paswan will contest the state elections from a general category seat. However, the specific constituency has yet to be finalized.
Social Media Post Fuels Speculation
Speculation over Paswan’s return to state politics intensified following a social media post by his brother-in-law and Jamui MP, Arun Bharti, who wrote: “When the leader is for the entire Bihar, why limit him to a single seat?” The post has been widely interpreted as an endorsement of Paswan’s potential candidature and as a signal of broader ambitions within the state.
Election Timeline and Preparations Underway
The current term of the Bihar Legislative Assembly is set to expire on November 22, 2025. According to Election Commission sources, polls are expected to be held in two to three phases, with efforts being made to avoid scheduling overlaps with major festivals such as Diwali and Chhath Puja.
Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar is expected to visit Bihar later this month to assess poll preparedness. Additionally, the training of electoral staff has already commenced, indicating the Election Commission’s proactive approach to the impending elections.
As Bihar gears up for what promises to be a closely watched electoral contest, Paswan’s potential re-entry into state politics could significantly reshape the political landscape and energize the Lok Janshakti Party’s grassroots base.
