New Delhi | June 26, 2025 — A clerk employed at the Indian Navy’s headquarters in New Delhi has been arrested on charges of espionage, in a case that has raised serious concerns over internal security breaches. The accused, Vishal Yadav, a resident of Haryana, was reportedly passing sensitive defence information to Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) for an extended period—including during the recently conducted Operation Sindoor.
The arrest was made by the Rajasthan Police’s Intelligence Wing after months of surveillance, culminating in charges under the Official Secrets Act, 1923. Yadav, who served in the Directorate of Dockyard at Navy HQ, is alleged to have shared confidential details related to naval operations and other defence installations with a Pakistani handler posing as an Indian woman named "Priya Sharma."
According to senior officials, including Additional Director General of Police (Intelligence) Vishnukant Gupta, Yadav was systematically cultivated by Pakistani operatives through social media platforms. In exchange for classified material, he received payments routed through cryptocurrency channels and direct bank transfers.
“Yadav had developed a financial dependency due to his addiction to online gaming and mounting losses. This vulnerability was exploited by the handler, who paid him regularly to extract information of strategic importance,” said Gupta.
The espionage activity is believed to have been ongoing for several years and possibly intensified during critical military operations. Authorities are now conducting a thorough investigation into the extent of the data compromised and potential national security implications.
The case has prompted renewed warnings from intelligence agencies urging citizens—particularly those in sensitive positions—to exercise caution on social media and to report any suspicious approaches or activity.
Yadav remains in custody and is being interrogated further to determine the full scope of the breach and identify any additional links to hostile foreign networks.
