India’s Operation Sindoor Delivers Heavy Blow to Pakistan Air Force Assets

New Delhi, June 4, 2025 — In a major display of air superiority, the Indian Air Force (IAF) inflicted severe damage on Pakistan’s military infrastructure during the recently concluded four-day conflict codenamed ‘Operation Sindoor’, launched in retaliation for the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that claimed the lives of 26 Indian tourists.

According to high-level sources quoted by news agency ANI, six Pakistan Air Force (PAF) fighter jets, two high-value aerial assets, over ten Unmanned Combat Aerial Vehicles (UCAVs), one C-130 transport aircraft, and multiple air and ground-launched cruise missiles were destroyed during precision strikes carried out by Indian forces between May 6 and May 10.

High-Value Targets Neutralized

Among the critical assets neutralized was a high-value surveillance aircraft, believed to be either an electronic countermeasures platform or an Airborne Early Warning and Control (AEWC) system, eliminated through a long-range Sudarshan strike at approximately 300 km. A second AEWC aircraft of Swedish origin was destroyed in a cruise missile strike targeting Pakistan’s Bholari Airbase.

The report further noted that multiple Chinese-origin Wing Loong series medium-altitude long-endurance drones, stationed in hangars and in operation, were destroyed in coordinated airstrikes led by Rafale and Su-30 fighter jets. However, IAF sources clarified that fighter jets believed to be inside targeted hangars have not yet been counted as confirmed losses due to Pakistan’s refusal to clear debris from strike zones.

Precision-Only Strategy

In a calculated and precise campaign, the IAF exclusively employed air-launched cruise missiles, opting not to use surface-to-surface BrahMos missiles, thereby maintaining a high level of operational control and minimizing collateral damage. IAF air defence systems were also reportedly successful in intercepting a significant number of Pakistani air and ground-launched cruise and ballistic missiles, aimed at Indian military installations.

Terror Infrastructure in PoK Also Hit

Operation Sindoor also saw the destruction of multiple terror camps operating in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK). Over 100 terrorists were reported killed in targeted strikes, signaling India’s continued zero-tolerance policy towards cross-border terrorism.

Conflict Timeline and Ceasefire

The high-intensity conflict began in the early hours of May 7 and escalated rapidly over the following days. After sustained losses, Pakistan reportedly requested a ceasefire on May 10 afternoon, signaling the operational effectiveness of India’s precision-strike doctrine and technological edge.

As of now, the Indian Air Force is conducting a detailed post-operation damage assessment, which may reveal further insights into the scale of losses incurred by the Pakistani military.

Strategic Implications

The operation has reaffirmed India’s capabilities in executing high-impact, limited-duration military operations with surgical precision. With Operation Sindoor, the Indian armed forces have sent a clear message regarding the consequences of sponsoring terrorism and attempting cross-border aggression.
