Murder Mystery of Indore Man Deepens as Wife Emerges as Prime Suspect in Meghalaya Case

The investigation into the murder of Indore resident Raja Raghuvanshi in Meghalaya has taken a dramatic turn, with police naming his wife, Sonam Raghuvanshi, as the prime suspect in what they allege was a meticulously orchestrated killing. The case, which has captivated national attention, continues to unfold with fresh revelations and high-profile arrests.

Speaking to news agency ANI, Sonam’s brother, Govind Raghuvanshi, declined to comment on the allegations, citing emotional distress.

“When she called me, I became emotional and later informed the police. Until I meet her, I cannot say anything. I haven’t slept in 72 hours—it’s been 20 days since I last saw her,” Govind said.

According to police, Sonam allegedly conspired with her lover, Raj Kushwaha, to execute the murder during what was supposed to be a honeymoon trip with her husband. She was traced and apprehended at a roadside eatery on the Varanasi-Ghazipur highway in Uttar Pradesh.

Authorities have arrested a total of five individuals in connection with the case. Alongside Sonam and Kushwaha, three alleged contract killers—identified as Akash, Vishal, and Anand—have also been taken into custody. The Madhya Pradesh Police have since deployed security personnel outside Sonam’s residence in Indore as a precautionary measure.

“People have gathered in the area, so we have deployed security. The details of the case are still under investigation by the Meghalaya Police,” said Banganga SHO Siyaram Singh.

The post-mortem examination of Raja Raghuvanshi revealed two fatal head injuries. His decomposing body was recovered from a gorge near the scenic Weisawdong Falls in Meghalaya, according to Herbert Pyniaid Kharkongor, Chief of the Special Investigation Team (SIT) overseeing the case.

“Our team is en route to Ghazipur, where we will formally arrest Sonam and seek her transit remand to bring her back to Shillong,” Kharkongor told ANI.

Following her apprehension, Sonam claimed she was innocent and alleged that she had been abducted. She further stated that she was abandoned in Ghazipur, from where she contacted her brother for help.

As investigators delve deeper into the chilling crime, questions remain about the motive, the planning, and the roles of each accused. The case is now under close scrutiny from both state and national law enforcement agencies.
