A huge protest on social media against the Cochin University B-Tech Alumni Association for allegedly hosting former Pakistani cricketer Shahid Afridi.
The protest is also taking place in this context in Pahalgam. Afridi had made offensive remarks during the India-Pakistan conflict following the terror attack.
Afridi and former Pakistan pace bowler Umar Gul attended an event held by the Cochin University B-Tech Alumni Association in Dubai last week, which has now prompted protests.
Following criticism and protests, the Cochin University B-Tech Alumni Association came forward with an explanation.
"Our event was on May 25. On the same day, there was another event related to the UAE flag and the Guinness Book of Records in this hall. When our event was over, these cricketers appeared at our event in the same auditorium unannounced and unsolicited. None of our organizing team or alumni members invited them," the Alumni Association said in a statement.

They explained that the Pakistani stars had arrived at their event uninvited and were supposed to be attending another event in the same hall.
But when they arrived on stage after being invited, the Cochin University B-Tech Alumni Association in the audience welcomed them with a 'boom boom'.
Some are calling for the passports of CUSAT alumni who hosted Afridi to be cancelled, saying, 'Patriotism has crossed the boundary.., what a shame!' This is how the Malayali community that hosted Shahid Afridi is being criticized.
Reacting to the explanation given by the alumni, BJP state spokesperson Yuvraj Gokul said, "Don't think that the brain is being pawned at the AKG center; if someone like Afridi says that he came uninvited, it is unbelievable."
