Hyderabad, June 30, 2025 — At least 13 people were killed and several others injured in a devastating explosion at Sigachi Pharma Company located in the Pasamailaram Phase 1 industrial area of Telangana’s Sangareddy district on Monday. The blast, reportedly triggered by the explosion of a reactor inside the facility, led to a massive fire and widespread chaos in the vicinity.
According to official reports, five victims died on the spot, while eight others succumbed to their injuries during treatment. Rescue and firefighting operations were immediately launched, with 11 fire tenders deployed to control the blaze and search for survivors.
“Nearly 15 to 20 people sustained injuries in the incident. Firefighting and rescue efforts are ongoing,” confirmed a senior official from the Telangana Fire Department. The exact cause of the explosion is yet to be ascertained, and further investigations are underway.
National Leaders Respond
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy and announced ex-gratia relief for the victims’ families. “Anguished by the loss of lives due to a fire tragedy at a factory in Sangareddy, Telangana. Condolences to those who have lost their loved ones. May the injured recover soon,” read a post from the Prime Minister’s Office on X (formerly Twitter).
An ex-gratia payment of ₹2 lakh will be provided to the next of kin of each deceased victim, while the injured will receive ₹50,000, from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF).
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi also offered his condolences, calling the incident “extremely tragic and concerning.” In a post on X, he extended sympathies to the bereaved families and wished a speedy recovery to the injured. “Efforts are ongoing to provide every possible assistance to the affected people. In this difficult time, we stand with the affected families in every way,” he stated.
