Limerick, June 22 — Three men were hospitalised following violent clashes in Limerick City overnight, in what authorities believe is the latest flare-up in an ongoing feud between rival criminal families.
Emergency services responded to the incident around 11:50 p.m. on Saturday night in the Hyde Avenue area of Ballinacurra Weston, on the city’s south side. Gardaà confirmed they were alerted to reports of violent disorder and criminal damage at the scene.
One of the three injured men was reported to be in a more serious condition and was undergoing surgery for a significant, though non-life-threatening, injury at University Hospital Limerick. The two other individuals sustained minor injuries and were also treated at the facility.
According to sources familiar with the investigation, the confrontation involved the use of weapons believed to include slash hooks. A car was also badly damaged during the melee, and Gardaà maintained a cordon around the scene into Sunday morning as forensic teams conducted their examination.
Local residents described the incident as “chaotic,” with concerns mounting over the escalating violence linked to the feud. “If this continues, someone is going to get killed,” one local source said.
The Hyde Avenue clash is the latest in a string of violent episodes in Limerick in recent months, which have included shootings, pipe bombings, and arson attacks. Gardaà have increased patrols in the area and are actively pursuing leads connected to organised crime groups believed to be involved.
The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are appealing to anyone with information to come forward.
