Indian-origin woman injured in attack died in UK

Nila Patel, a 56-year-old Indian-origin woman, died after suffering head injuries in an attack on the streets of Leicester, eastern England.

The court has remanded a 23-year-old man in police custody, charged with murder in the attack on Nila. The police said that he is a serious criminal who has committed several crimes.

But what actually happened on the street and what led the young man to attack the middle-aged woman without provocation is still unclear. The mystery surrounding the incident still continues. The death of Nila Patel, a loving housewife and mother of two, was an incident that shocked Indians in Leicester and England.

The tragic incident took place near Aylestone Road in central Leicester on June 24. A witness told police that the attack took place shortly after a car crash there.

It is still unclear whether Nila was hit by a car while walking along the road or whether the attacker hit her on the head and injured her. According to police reports, Nila Patel was attacked while walking nearby.

If the injury was caused by hitting the head, the question arises as to why the attacker did it. The car involved in the accident is upside down. The police have not given a clear answer to the media as to whether the attacker or Nila came in this car.

Meanwhile, an eyewitness has told the police that the youth was attacking and injuring Nila. Nila Patel was admitted to the hospital after the attack, but she died two days later. The postmortem examination confirmed that the cause of death was head injuries.

Leicestershire Police said a post-mortem examination showed head injuries to be the provisional cause of death. Defendant Michael Chuvumeka appeared at Leicester Crown Court in Loughborough on Tuesday, charged with murder.

The report states that the defendant has a history of and convictions for dangerous driving, possession with intent to supply of a class B or prohibited drug, and attempted grievous bodily harm to a woman in relation to a previous incident. He has also been charged with assaulting another woman in London.

After his arrest on June 24, Michael Chuvumeka was charged with assaulting a police officer and assaulting an emergency services worker.

On Tuesday, June 24, 2025, our world changed forever.

Our mother Nila Patel was tragically and violently taken from us in an unprovoked attack near Leicester Royal Infirmary. As they were walking along Aylestone Road, they were attacked by a man who had fled the scene of a car accident. Mother suffered life-threatening injuries and, despite the incredible efforts of the medical team at Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham, she sadly died two days later on Thursday 26 June.

This heartbreaking incident has shocked our entire family. Our mother was the kindest, most caring, and selfless person we have ever met. She always put others first, never made a fuss, and no matter what she went through, she always had a big smile on her face.

She was the pillar of our family. She supported us in everything and asked for nothing in return. She was our comfort, our strength, and truly our hero. We don't know how we would have carried on without her, but we know we want to make her proud and honor her in every way possible.

Now it's our turn to do everything we can for her. We are going through a murder investigation, and while the justice process progresses, we also face the immediate pressures of funeral costs, legal arrangements, and trying to support our family during this sudden loss.

Mom was not just our parent. She was our safe haven, our guide, and our biggest cheerleader. Her loss has left a void in our lives that can never be filled.

We are asking for help from friends, family and the wider community. Any donation, big or small, will go towards giving Mom the beautiful farewell she deserves.

Supporting us, her children, as we begin to rebuild our lives without her.

Helping with all legal and practical expenses during this incredibly painful time.

Your support, love, and kindness mean the world to us. If you can donate, share this page, or just keep us in your thoughts, we would be truly grateful.

With love,

Jaydan and Danika Patel
