A serious controversy has emerged following a heated altercation at the Karnataka Bhavan in New Delhi, where H. Anjaneya, Special Officer to Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, accused C. Mohan Kumar, Assistant Resident Commissioner and Special Officer to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, of physically assaulting him with a shoe.
Anjaneya lodged a formal complaint with Resident Commissioner Imkongla Jamir, urging the initiation of criminal proceedings against Kumar. “I was beaten with a shoe, which has deeply hurt my honour and dignity. I demand a criminal trial and justice,” Anjaneya stated in his complaint, according to news agency PTI.
Commissioner Jamir confirmed receiving the complaint, dated July 22, and assured that due process would be followed.
In a detailed letter, Anjaneya alleged that Kumar had been consistently obstructing his official duties. He claimed that Kumar threatened and attempted to assault him in the presence of other staff members at the Bhavan. Expressing concerns about his personal safety, Anjaneya wrote, “If anything untoward happens to me, C. Mohan Kumar will be responsible.”
The complaint also referenced Kumar’s past conduct, alleging a pattern of inappropriate behaviour. “His service records will show that he previously assaulted M.M. Joshi and has consistently shown disrespect toward senior officials, acting with arrogance in his role as Special Officer to the Chief Minister,” the letter stated.
Anjaneya added that he had previously requested a transfer from Karnataka Bhavan to avoid further conflict while serving as Special Officer to the Deputy Chief Minister.
The incident has triggered a political row, with the opposition BJP seizing on the development as evidence of growing internal discord within the ruling state government. The altercation between the aides has reignited speculation over an ongoing power tussle between Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister Shivakumar.
