Woman Alleges Gang-Rape in Moving Ambulance After Collapsing During Recruitment Test in Bihar

Bodh Gaya, Bihar — A 26-year-old woman has alleged that she was gang-raped inside a moving ambulance after fainting during a physical endurance test for Home Guard recruitment on July 24 in Bodh Gaya.

According to police, the woman lost consciousness during the physical assessment and was being transported to a nearby hospital when the alleged assault occurred. In her statement, she claimed that multiple individuals took advantage of her semi-conscious state and sexually assaulted her inside the vehicle.

An FIR has been registered at the Bodh Gaya police station. Acting swiftly, authorities arrested two suspects within hours of the complaint — Vinay Kumar, the ambulance driver, and Ajit Kumar, a technician on board. Both are currently in custody and are being interrogated.

The police described the action taken as “swift and immediate,” noting that CCTV footage from the area has helped verify the ambulance’s route and timeline, providing crucial evidence for the ongoing investigation. A preliminary forensic report is expected shortly.

City Senior Superintendent of Police Ramanand Kaushal stated, “On July 24, during a Home Guard recruitment run at BMP Bodh Gaya, a female candidate fainted and was transported to the hospital. She later reported being sexually assaulted by two individuals — the ambulance driver and a technician — both of whom have been arrested and are undergoing medical examination.”

The alleged assault has triggered widespread outrage and renewed scrutiny over public safety and law enforcement in the state. Union Minister and Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) chief Chirag Paswan condemned the incident, saying, “The way crime is unfolding in Bihar, it appears the administration has surrendered before criminal elements.”

Paswan added, “This heinous incident demands strong condemnation. But the larger concern is the repeated nature of such crimes. If this trend continues unchecked, the situation will spiral out of control — some might argue it already has.”

He also addressed potential political ramifications, noting, “Even if some suspect a conspiracy to malign the government ahead of elections, the administration’s primary responsibility is to uphold law and order. I urge the government to act decisively and without delay.”

As of now, the investigation remains active, with further developments awaited.
