In a significant pre-poll initiative, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Thursday announced that all households in the state will receive up to 125 units of electricity free of cost, starting August 1, 2025. The announcement, which is set to impact over 1.67 crore families, was made via a post on X (formerly Twitter).
“Since the beginning, our government has worked to ensure electricity is accessible to all at affordable rates. We are now taking a step further — from the July billing cycle onward, domestic consumers will not be charged for up to 125 units of electricity,” the Chief Minister stated.
As part of the broader push toward sustainable energy, Kumar also revealed plans to equip residential rooftops with solar panels within the next three years. “With due consent from households, solar power systems will be installed either on rooftops or on nearby public land to extend additional benefits,” he added.
This announcement follows the recent cabinet approval of 30 major proposals, including an ambitious plan to generate employment for one crore youth over the next five years.
With the Bihar Assembly elections on the horizon, the Chief Minister’s latest announcements are being widely interpreted as a strategic effort by the ruling NDA government to strengthen its position and respond to mounting criticism from the Opposition.
