A comprehensive discussion on Operation Sindoor has been scheduled in the Rajya Sabha for July 29, with a total of 16 hours allocated for the debate. According to sources, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to participate in the deliberations in both Houses of Parliament.
The motion to initiate the discussion in the Rajya Sabha will be tabled by BJP leader Shamik Bhattacharya. The decision to allocate focused debate time was taken during a meeting of the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) held earlier today. The move follows persistent demands from the Opposition, which has called for a thorough discussion on both the Pahalgam terror incident and the government’s military response, Operation Sindoor.
The debate is expected to see participation from top members of the Cabinet, including Home Minister Amit Shah and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, who, along with the Prime Minister, are likely to be present during the proceedings.
Over the past week, Parliament has witnessed repeated disruptions and vocal demands from Opposition members, seeking clarity and accountability from the government. With members from across the political spectrum preparing to speak, the upcoming debate promises to be both exhaustive and consequential.
In the Lok Sabha, a parallel 16-hour slot has also been reserved for the debate on Operation Sindoor. Opposition parties have insisted on the presence of Prime Minister Modi during the discussion, emphasizing that the matter be addressed prior to the consideration of other legislative business.
Sources within the Treasury Benches noted that during the BAC meeting, Opposition leaders reiterated their demand for the attendance of both the Prime Minister and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh during the debate. “Accordingly, the discussion has been scheduled for next week,” a source informed The Indian Express.
The focal point of the deliberations will be Operation Sindoor—a high-precision military operation executed by the Indian Army on May 7, in retaliation for the Pahalgam terror attack. The operation reportedly involved coordinated strikes on terror camps situated within Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), signaling a decisive shift in India’s counter-terrorism posture.
