Ramban, July 6 — Six devotees sustained injuries on Saturday after a chain collision involving five buses from the Pahalgam-bound convoy of the ongoing Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra near the Chanderkote langar site in Jammu and Kashmir’s Ramban district, officials confirmed.
According to preliminary reports, the incident occurred due to a suspected brake failure, causing the buses—part of the official Yatra convoy—to crash into one another. Emergency response teams from the police and health department were immediately dispatched to the site. The injured were swiftly evacuated and transported to the District Hospital in Ramban for medical treatment. All injured are reported to be in stable condition.
Pilgrimage Continues Amid Tight Security
The annual Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra, which commenced on July 3 and will conclude on August 9, coinciding with Shravan Purnima and Raksha Bandhan, continues to draw thousands of pilgrims from across the country. The revered Himalayan cave shrine, located at an altitude of 3,888 metres, is accessible via two main routes— the traditional Pahalgam route and the shorter Baltal route.
Pilgrims opting for the Pahalgam route must traverse a 46-kilometre mountainous trail via Chandanwari, Sheshnag, and Panchtarni before reaching the cave shrine.
Fresh Batch of Pilgrims Departs for the Shrine
Meanwhile, another batch of 6,979 pilgrims departed from the Bhagwati Nagar Yatri Niwas in Jammu on Saturday under heightened security arrangements. The convoy, comprising 312 vehicles, was escorted by security forces along the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway.
According to officials, 2,753 pilgrims from the latest group are en route to the Baltal base camp, while 4,226 are heading toward the Nunwan base camp in Pahalgam.
Since the Yatra began earlier this week, over 26,800 devotees have already had darshan at the sacred cave shrine, reaffirming the enduring spiritual and cultural significance of the Amarnath pilgrimage.
Authorities continue to monitor the Yatra closely to ensure the safety and well-being of pilgrims amidst challenging terrain and unpredictable weather conditions.
