Tipperary, July 11 — A young girl has tragically passed away following a water-related incident in County Tipperary on Friday afternoon.
The incident occurred around 4:20 p.m. at the River Suir in Newcastle, where the child reportedly got into difficulty while in the water. Emergency services, including Gardaà and first responders, were quickly dispatched to the scene. Bystanders made immediate efforts to resuscitate the child before paramedics and additional emergency personnel arrived.
She was subsequently airlifted in critical condition by the Irish Coast Guard’s Rescue 117 helicopter to Cork University Hospital. Despite the best efforts of all involved, the girl later succumbed to her injuries.
Gardaà have confirmed that a full investigation is underway, and a file will be prepared for the Coroner’s Court as per standard procedure.
Authorities have extended their condolences to the family and urged the public to exercise caution around waterways, particularly during the summer months.
